Biometric Login: Frequently Asked Questions

Modified on Mon, 2 Mar at 2:44 PM

1. What is Biometric Login?

Biometric login is a secure way to access your Tala account using your phone’s built-in fingerprint or face scan instead of typing your 4-digit PIN every time. It’s faster, more secure, and means you never have to worry about forgetting your PIN again.

2. Is it safe to use my fingerprint or face scan?

Yes, it is very secure.

  • Privacy First: Tala does not "see" or store your actual fingerprint or face data on our servers.

  • Secure Storage: Your biometric information stays safely locked in your device’s Android Keystore, a high-security vault built into your phone that apps cannot access directly.

3. How do I turn on Biometric Login?

If you have a compatible phone (Android 10 or higher) and have already set up a fingerprint or face scan to unlock your device, you will see an option to "Enroll" after you successfully enter your PIN at login or during signup. Simply select "Yes" to enjoy faster access.

4. What happens if my fingerprint or face scan doesn't work?

Don't worry! If the scan fails, you can try again up to three times. If it still doesn't recognize you, you can always choose to "Enter PIN manually" to access your account.

5. Can I still use my PIN?

Absolutely. Your 4-digit PIN is still your "master key". You will need it if you ever want to change your security settings or if you log in from a device that doesn't support biometrics.

6. I've been locked out for 3 hours before. Will this help?

Yes! Most lockouts happen because customers enter the wrong PIN too many times. By using biometrics, you eliminate the risk of "incorrect PIN" entries, helping you avoid those 3-hour lockouts entirely.

7. What if I change my phone or my PIN?

  • New Phone: If you get a new device, you will log in with your PIN first. Once you're in, the app will ask if you want to enable biometrics on the new phone.

  • New PIN: If you change your Tala PIN, your biometrics will continue to work normally—no need to re-enroll!

8. Can I turn this feature off later?

Yes. If you decide you prefer your PIN, you can go to your App Settings at any time to turn off biometric authentication.
